Discover the Line That Goes Uphill to the Sea!
Step back in time and experience the charm of one of the Isle of Man’s most unique railways, originally built in 1896 by Richard Maltby Broadbent as part of the Groudle Glen pleasure grounds. This historic line, once a beloved tourist attraction, faced challenges in the 1950s and 1960s, falling into disrepair, closure, scrapping and nearly vanishing from the landscape.
However, thanks to the dedication of a passionate group of volunteers, the line was saved from extinction. In 1982, efforts began to restore it, and by 1986, passengers were once again enjoying its scenic journey.
Today, the line operates as a registered Manx charity, lovingly run by a team of volunteers. Offering a delightful, nostalgic day out for visitors of all ages, it continues to preserve an important piece of Manx railway heritage, ensuring that this cherished experience will be enjoyed by future generations.
Come ride the line that takes you uphill to the sea – a journey steeped in history and full of adventure!
